I know that we have talked about how to make our own but sometimes (and this is usually me), I just want to know where I can buy a pom-pom for my hat.
Making a pom pom can be messy! And sometimes the easiest thing is to have the Amazon person drop off a box full of pre-made fuzzy pom poms. So, where are the best spots to find them?
Faux Fur Pom—Poms can be found online for purchase through many different venues. The most popular locations to find a pom-pom is Amazon and Etsy. Local craft stores also sell them and sometimes you can get lucky with the Dollar Stores.
When making a purchase for a pom-pom, my first steps are to think about what colors and sizes that I need for my upcoming projects. There are options to purchase a single pom but you will get much better pricing if buying in bulk.
Top picks to buy Faux Fur Pom Poms online
Out of these 2, Amazon is going to have the cheaper prices but sometimes you don’t always know exactly what you are getting. I have had several cases where the fuzzy pom pom doesn’t quite add up to the picture.
A good tip with any Amazon purchase is to double check the return policy to ensure if an item doesn’t meet your needs…you can totally send it back.
If you want the really BIG, Fluffy, and doesn’t look like it came off an assembly line, Etsy is the way to go.
Top picks to buy Faux Fur Pom Poms in local stores
- Hobby Lobby (link 40% off coupon)
- Dollar store
Tip: Hobby Lobby ALWAYS has a 40% coupon (for one item) in their weekly newsletter. Grab your phone while waiting in line and search for “Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon”. They can scan the barcode straight from your phone.
If you are a bargin hunter, highly recommend checking out your local Dollar Stores (dollar tree, dollar store, general store, all of the above). They market these as furry keychains but they are exactly what is needed for our toppers!
My absolute FAVORITE option is on Amazon right now! Get a 12 pack of some gorgeous furry toppers for your hats. They come in a ton of different colors. With a touch of your hair dryer, they puff up nicely.
How to order the right size. What sizes are available?
When it comes to the size, there are a ton of options. From the itty bitty tiny to full on “my whole head is covered in fur” options. For most hats, a 4 – 6” pom pom sits very nicely and adds extra size.
Check out this great picture from Warehouse 2020 (check them out HERE).
I also found this great resource on Lindof.com and I think it helps put the fur topper in more of a perpsective with the hat.
What colors are available in a pom pom?
The real question here is what colors are NOT available. I am pretty sure that if you think of it…it is available. The most popular fluffs are in the animal print type coloring but there are also options for solid colors.
Snap vs. Strings vs. Elastic band?
Before hitting that buy button, make sure the method of how to attach the pom pom is one that you want.
Poms commonly come in 3 methods
- Attached Strings
- Attached small elastic band
- Attached snap (the other side of snap is sewn on your project to attach)
How do you fluff a fur pom pom?
If you are getting your pom pom shipped to you, they will most likely come all kinds of smushed up from the packaging.
Do not fret!!! There is an easy fix for this.
Grab your hairdryer, turn on high heat, and gently blow dry over the pom pom. In about 20 seconds, you are going to have a pom pom with a whole new name!
Wrapping this one up!
There is just something about a hat with a fur topper!!! The real decision here is to make or to buy? There is no wrong answer.
